Knowledge doesn’t equal application (11/30/16)

This is what I go by especially when it comes down to nutrition. We all know what’s good or bad, but at the end of the day, it’s hard to resist. Especially our demons. I’m talking about our ice cream, cookies, that delicious holiday latte that has more calories than a 8oz steak, etc. We thrive on emotion, emotionally eating to be exact. We all have that one food that we know it’s bad, but we keep eating it. Only because it makes us feel good. It’s like when I eat ice cream. When I eat that coffee ice cream, I feel good. I know it has 39g of sugar in one cup, but is that going to resist me from eating it? No. Matter of fact, HEEEEEELLLLL NO hah. I’m going to eat it and enjoy it. The thing about controlling these types of emotion is figuring out if it’s worth it.

For me, I don’t stress over one cup of ice cream once or twice a week. Why? Because I know my diet is controlled the other times. I know that one item is not going to blow everything out of the water for me. If it’s going to take 5 miles to burn that off, I can do that. That’s just my body and mentality. There’s no guilt when I’m eating it because I know I am going to enjoy that cup or two of ice cream. Ain’t nothing gonna stop me, hah. I know ice cream has a lot of sugar, so I control my sugar intake for the rest of the week. The calories aren’t the problem for me because my fitness goal is to maintain my weight (Myfitnesspal has me set as 2910 calories, so excess calorie is not my concern). Plus, my sugar intake is set at 109g. For those of you who have a general understanding of how much calories and sugar intake that is, it’s quite a bit. But, that’s just my goals. Obviously, this would need to change if I needed to lose weight. That’s not my goal. And here’s the thing. We all have DIFFERENT goals in fitness and you have to make a conscious effort into seeing what you’re eating.

I’ve heard this so many times as a trainer, “I eat well.” Well, obviously if you ate well, you wouldn’t need a trainer and that’s what people do not realize. We all have different goals and figuring out what works best for you takes time. Trial and error, but it has to start with making the time to correct bad habits here and there. It’s not realistic to take out every bad food in your diet. Ask yourself, how long do you want to sustain a clean diet? Now, if you’re like most people, the answer would be “long time.” I don’t doubt people’s intelligence when it comes down to nutrition. Hell, I’m sure most of my clients are smarter than me in nutrition (or smarter in general for that matter hah), but that’s not what they struggle with. It’s the application portion.

Hold yourself accountable because no one else will. At the end of the day, YOU are the ONE that is feeding yourself; nobody else is. YOU are the ONE that is putting that food in your mouth. So take responsibility for your own action and make the necessary change. We all know what it is that’s making us gain weight or hindering us from getting results, but the real question is whether you can take action and change it. If you don’t do anything about it, nothing will change. So take action and make the effort to figure out your eating habits. If you don’t know, then ask. Simple as that. That’s what people like myself are here for……………….Hope you liked this week’s blog, stay tuned for more next week………………………Kei
