Extraordinary stuff is all over social media. People dead lifting 700-lbs, bench pressing 300-lbs, seniors running marathons under 3 hours, the list is endless on how remarkable these videos are. However, most of the videos we watch only show the glory. The stuff we don’t see is the hard work, diligence, blood, sweat, and tears these people put to showcase their skills for that one video. They don’t wake up one day and are able to do these incredible things. Hours, days, months, and years of exercising are behind this.
Well, I am here to tell you that it is NOT.
People think its EASY to do these things. Just by watching a video, “ah, that’s easy.” Well, I am here to tell you that it is NOT. ABSOLUTELY NOT. I have been exercising for 20 plus years and I am no where near being able to dead lift 700-lbs or bench press 300-lbs, or run a marathon under 3 hours. Matter of fact, when I ran the marathon it took me 6 and a half hours because my right knee exploded during the latter half of the race and I was limping the last 10 miles. Also, I thought running a marathon was “going to be easy.” Boy, was I wrong. But it took me actually doing one to convince that running a marathon wasn’t easy.
The thing about these videos on fitness is, some people don’t have a frame of reference. “Ah, that’s easy. I can do that.” How many times have you heard that? My answer is, “let’s see you do it and we shall see how EASY it is.” Most times, they don’t respond.
We are accustomed to watching people doing incredible workouts on social media. If you pull up Instagram and look through the fitness category, that’s all you are going to see. Its because that’s what we want to see. But remember, its not the fun stuff that allows you to do these extraordinary feats. Its the regular exercises such as push-ups, planks, side planks, cardio, pull-up exercises that builds the foundation to do the fun stuff. Hope you enjoyed this week’s blog.
