Favorite candy: sour patch kids

What is YOUR favorite candy? Chocolate, hard, peanut butter, taffy, sour, liquorice, candy corn, jelly beans, lollipops, cotton candy, the list goes on with the types available. I remember my favorite was always Sour Patch Kids. I may sneak a pack here and there throughout the year. Come to think of it, I bought one when I went to watch “Crazy Rich Asian” couple months ago. Candy hasn’t changed much; kids eat the same kind to this day. I guess why change what’s good, right?

Back then, I didn’t think about how many calories or sugar were in each packet. I was focused on eating MORE OF IT! Did this habit cause me to crave more? Absolutely not. Did I get a lot of cavities? Not really. I remember my mom telling me, “don’t overdo it. Make sure to brush your teeth.” She didn’t restrict me from eating it. She let ME be the ONE to decide. In my opinion, because I ate so much growing up, I don’t have much craving for it.

At times, the media persuades us in a certain direction.

Media plays a big role in putting thoughts in our mind. We watch the news and the headline says, “high in SUGAR. Causes x, y, and z.” At times, it puts a negative association with the item and we tend to take extreme measures to avoid it. “I’m never going to eat that again.” Without putting your THOUGHT and RESEARCH into it and being persuaded based on what you see on TV is dangerous in my opinion. I always tell my clients, do your RESEARCH.

Today is the day to be a kid again. Reminiscing those days walking around the neighborhood, ringing doorbells, and saying “trick or treat!” Separating our favorites to ones we don’t like. Ah, such good memories. Now that we are all grown up and have the ability to buy it, the challenge is to be disciplined to not over consume. Remember, your metabolism isn’t as FAST as it was before. Unfortunately. Happy Halloween, stay disciplined, and DON’T STEAL YOUR KIDS’ CANDY! Hope you liked this week’s blog. Stay tuned for more next Wed…………………………………….Kei
