Treat Exercise like being in a………relationship?

Relationship. What does it have to do with exercise? Well, let’s just look at the topic itself. If you want a relationship to last a long time you have to put effort. A LOT of effort. That’s how you have to treat exercise. It requires a lot of work to get to where you want to be.

Meal preparation, eating right, exercising consistently, being conscious about making good decisions, the list goes on in terms of how much it takes to get results and, most importantly, maintain it. In addition, what works once doesn’t necessarily guarantee that it’ll keep working. For instance, your workout plan for weight loss is going to be completely different than when trying to maintain weight.

What works once doesn’t mean its going to keep working.

The key to exercising is consistency. You can’t just exercise for couple of months and go cold turkey. Can’t be a summer fling, especially if you want results that last. So if you plan on exercising for a long time, it has to be a healthy relationship. If you don’t like exercising, its like that girlfriend/boyfriend you are stuck with. You complain about her/him, but you don’t do anything about it to fix the relationship. It’s only going to get worse as time goes. In this case, its only a matter of time the relationship ends.

Don’t get complacent.

With this in mind, you have to keep working on your relationship with exercise. If you do NOT like exercising, then the problem lies there. It’s like that job you hate, but you keep going to it. At some point, you are going to say, “enough of this, I quit.” So let’s find ways you will start to like exercising. Walking alongside the beach, climbing stairs, going on a hike, gardening, these are all exercises. When people think of exercising they think, “oh, but I don’t like going to the gym.” That’s no problem. You don’t have to if you don’t like it. If you need some ideas, here is a great link:

Ultimately, if you’re looking for exercise to be long-term, then you have to treat it like that girlfriend/boyfriend you want to stick around and hopefully get married to. There’s going to be some ups and down. At times, you will not see any changes and you start questioning everything. “Why isn’t my body changing?” “This isn’t working.” But, just like any long relationships, you have to trust the process and keep working at it. Hope you liked this week’s blog, Stay tuned for more next Wed………………….Kei
